art exists because of limitations

My interest in creating this page stems from my interest in the infinite - the possible permutations of pigment on canvas, or movements in space, or combinations of sounds, etc. Why are some combinations valued and others not? Do some combinations of those different media open doorways and shift paradigms that allow people to explore more territory? And if so, what makes others mere iterations of that type or dead ends? Is there such a thing as a dead end? Could Malevich's Suprematist Composition or Beethoven's 9th have been generated by random algorithms? Could music/books/paintings be generated randomly and then somehow all that data be combed through to find the works that are "interesting"?
