Flew to NYC today for a show at Dixon Place. http://www.dixonplace.org/ Was waiting to meet my friend with whom I am performing (her piece) at Park and 92nd. Sitting on the planter cement thing between the directions of traffic ( there must be a word for that thing ) watching the people walk by. Being the Upper East Side, there was a demographic, and funny to see that. Business men who looked like brooks brothers ads. people actually wear those light brown shoes with the silly tassles. navy jacket and khaki pants. Jogging moms with the newest baby carriage. The mixed race arty couple with the black clothes and thick framed glasses looked severe and sensitive at the same time. Urban hip kids with the thin soled shoes and tight pants, urban hiphop kids with the big shoes and baggy pants. Do they/we not see how they/we are fitting in our roles? Is it conscious? …..I must dress this way….do contact must wear baggy pants and wear a northface vest….must buy organic food…
